Just so you're aware before you get into this and then you're like "Wait...whaaaa-?" This is NOT your momma's banana pudding recipe. Unless it is. All I know for sure about momma's and banana pudding is that this ISN'T my momma's recipe but she DOES love it.
Banana Pudding
Ingredients:
- milk (good ol' certified cow calcium)
- (1) 3.4 oz box Banana Pudding mix (Instant or heat and serve. I used heat and serve without reading the box and needless to say it took me two tries to get it right. I also grabbed Banana CREAM pudding instead of regular banana... I don't pay a lot of attention to things. Anyways, all are great options. You can even make your own pudding if you'd care to.)
- Nilla Wafers (please please please please grab the Name Brand Nilla wafers and not the Walmart Great Value brand. Nothing against Great Value or any off brand labels but NIlla Wafers are not the same as "Vanilla Flavored Wafer Cookies")
- Bananas-sliced (getcha some of that there natural potassium)
- 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (you'll notice that until now I didn't really give you any exact measurements for things and that is because you can go bananas [haha haha haha help me...] and add however much or however little of the Nilla Wafers and Bananas you're little heart desires)
- 1 8 oz package of cream cheese- softened (like...so softened. It'll make your life easier)
- 1 12 oz tub of whipped cream (or make your own. I always do because my boyfriend absolutely loves it. I made it for him the first time I ever stayed over at his house and I'm STILL doing it almost every other weekend.)
Directions:
- Prepare your pudding per the directions on the box and allow to chill
- This is where you'll make your whipped cream if you're making whipped cream. If you're not skip this step and proceed to step 3.
- Using an electric mixer (or brute strength) combine your softened cream cheese and can of sweetened condensed milk.
- Once your pudding is set enough, combine your cream cheese and condensed milk into it.
- Gently fold in about half of the whipped cream (about 5-6 oz)
- Now you can begin layering your pudding. (You can use whichever kind of dish you want. If you're feeling fancy, maybe one of those trifle dishes. Those are fun, huh?) You'll start with covering the bottom with Nilla wafers, and then your sliced bananas, followed by your pudding mixture and a layer of whipped cream. Repeat this until you'r out of ingredients or you reach the top of your dish.
That's it kids. It's sooo good. Honestly, one of my favorite desserts. I made it about a week ago at my boyfriends house one weekend and then he made it again during the week and I made it again for my mom. (Needless to say we're all about banana pudding'd out but still VERY VERY worth it)
Until next time
-S
